TIRANA LION GATE RESIDENCES
The 21.750 m2 Lion Gate Project is located in Tirana, Albania. The project is a mixed use complex with a predominantly residential program situated in a site which has a close proximity to the city center while being at the edge of a forest. It is composed of nine separate blocks which include commercial ground floors consisting of a restaurant, cafes, shop and a sports center; and on the upper floors varied sized residential units.
The project mainly aims to integrate green into the high-rise residential blocks and maintain the relationship between nature and residences even as the blocks rise up. Each residence has an elliptical terrace wrapping around the units. The terraces accommodate variety of green elements in order to connect to the physically distant ground. The individual blocks are also wrapped by vertical timber elements which provide a frame for greenery to hold and grow, while creating a vertical forest in the whole and achieving a dynamic and unique facade. The vertical elements become sparse in the front facades of residences in order not to block the view of the rooms. Having residential units detached from each other in the plan allows each of them to have maximum vista, natural light and terrace area.
Materiality plays a key role the overall design of the complex. The use of warm tones and natural elements like timber and greenery create an inviting atmosphere.
Lion Gate Tirana offers an alternative solution to the high-rise living for demands of a growing population in city centers.
