ANKARA AEROSPACE INDUSTRY ZONE

TEKNOHAB

The aim of the establishment of Ankara Aerospace Industry Zone in TUSAŞ Campus within the boundaries of Kahramankazan District of Ankara is to encourage the local industry on aeronautics and space , to create a synergy by bringing local and foreign businesses together and to increase the exportation by producing products with high added value. Attracting local and foreign anchor companies and side industry which can improve Indigenous Aerospace Industry, achieving integration, creating an interface between European/ American investors and Middle East/ Turkish Republics, increasing the synergy between active groups in the sector, universities and research-development centers, providing a proper platform to incorporate SMEs(kobi) more into the sector are amongst the purposes of the project.

The main purpose of the design is to create an environment where different units can develop a common production and interact with each other. For that reason, the first thing considered is how this type of relationship can be realized. During the search for inspiration, the way stars interacting with each other in space became an important reference for master plan concept; after that, with the observation of similar interactions amongst neurons in the brain, the way of interaction between buildings as one of the main decisions of the project is defined.

The form of relationship that is seen both in the space and in the brain defines a network, creates different groups that interact with each other at certain centers. In TeknoHab Ankara Aerospace Industry Zone it is envisaged that by providing this kind of relationship between the buildings of the program, production will strengthen through communication.

Therefore, firstly functions and the relationships between them are defined, similar to space grid, networks between centers are created.

Each building is defined as ‘node’ and grouped by providing the relationships between them through ‘network’.

These networks are transformed into physical forms from abstract relationships; their mass volumes are decided by taking their sizes, the streets and axles between them into consideration.

A master plan of 190.000 sqm site area is requested to include TeknoHab (Administration) building, Ektam (Additive Manufacturing Technologies Research Center), office buildings for ARGE (Research-Development) institutions, Incubator Center, Common Research and Education Centers, Prototype and Production Centers, Social Service and Cafeteria building, Conference Center, universities and a building for TAI.

From three dimensional perspective, there is a central scheme in which extended arms give form to the masses. This scheme allows offices to get natural light from every direction, and connecting from a central body facilitates control mechanisms of Arge centers. The arms that can extend or shorten according to the need program given for different programs and areas creates a flexible system. This flexible system creates facades which are in relation with the landscape, green areas inbetween and the sun, and takes form through the reference of the site. The number of the arms and floors of the buildings are determined according to the need; 3 armed, 4 armed, 5 armed buildings can adapt to desired program flexibly in the same system. In this flexible system, the arms are scaled based on various workspace principals since they accommodate office functions. These principals are divided into three in the plan as such: two-sided with one corridor, one-sided with one corridor (class system), open workspaces without corridor.

Uninterrupted Alley

In Ankara Aerospace Industry Zone TeknoHab Project, the vehicular traffic is provided from the periphery of the site, and through an uninterrupted alley between buildings and green areas, a pedestrian and bicycle friendly environment is achieved. Vehicles cannot enter inside the campus, pedestrians and bicycles can reach all the buildings within the site. The periphery of the site is surrounded with parking; at the same time, a one-storey parking in the basement is planned. A controlled access to the site is aimed for the project. A secure access with management control is planned from TeknoHab building area from the south-west of the site. Access to the buildings are achieved from the periphery of the site. Starting with TeknoHab building, passing underneath the cafeteria without cutting it and ending with Conference Center, the uninterrupted alley strengthens the social interaction between buildings.

In Ankara Aerospace Industry Zone TeknoHab Project, sustainability is given particular importance; buildings are designed in accordance with green building principals. Solar panels are located on the roof of each building. By this way, buildings will be able to produce most of their energies. The stream nearby the area is considered as a resource and water source heat pump system is proposed in the project. The water drawn from the water channel –stream- is given to its source after passing through heat pump. Thus without diminishing the water in the source, it is given back to the channel after obtaining some energy through heat pump. The water is not polluted since it is not processed by any kind. It returns with its original state. It provides heat or coolness by using its hot energy in summer and cold energy in winter.
