KARABÜK UNIVERSITY LABORATORY BUILDING
Karabük University Laboratory Building, which is designed for the Faculty of Engineering, is located in close proximity with the Rectorate Building of the university in the large campus area. The building includes various laboratory areas, workspaces and social spaces working in relation to each other.
One of the major design ideas of the project is to create an inner court, thus achieving continuity at the ground level. The inner court is envisaged to acts as a small square where the urban vibrancy can be experienced within the large and sprawled campus area. Functions of the program takes form by means of different masses in accordance with their spatial requirements. Lab areas are designed as two identical rectangular volumes, different spaces are organized around a double-loaded corridor. The offices are organized as courtyard type, elevated off the ground to allow for movement underneath and located between the two lab volumes. By elevating the office mass, the opportunity of having four façade views is created and the workspaces are distributed around the mass. Social spaces are attached under the offices as a transparent volume so that it does not disturb the floating effect.
