ESKİŞEHİR CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONVENTION AND EXHIBITION CENTER

The Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce Convention and Exhibition Center is located along the Ankara-Eskişehir Highway 10 km from Eskişehir. The complex is comprised of four buildings that contain three different programs. The 10.484 sqm. municipal service building, the 7.360 sqm. convention center, and the 13.493 sqm. exhibition buildings are connected with a central multi-purpose 'hub.'

While the shorter side of the rectangular site sits at the edge of the highway, the forms of the municipal service building and the convention center are shaped through the idea creating a visual connection towards the 'central hub.' The shallow pools located at the entrance of the site create a reflective surface and add a visual depth to the project. Along with this, the façades of the municipal service building and the convention center are comprised of reflective glass that pull the eye towards the 'hub' and create a sense of directional movement drawing the visitor into the complex.

The Convention Center contains an oval-shaped 750 person capacity hall that will not only function as a conference hall but is also equipped for theater performances as well. Due to the proximity of the site to an airfield, the acoustics of this hall were carefully designed in order to minimize any disturbances caused by flying jets. In addition to the main hall, two additional 100 person capacity halls are located in the convention center for smaller gatherings. With all of its office spaces placed along the perimeter of the building, the Municipal building will be the new home for the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce. Due to this plan arrangement all offices, meeting rooms, and common spaces will have direct access to natural sunlight. Consisting of two 4.000 sqm. spaces, the Exhibition Center provides ample space for a multitude of functions.

Tying together all of these programmatic components, the central lobby or 'hub' becomes the key element in the overall design of the complex, becoming the node at which a smooth transition occurs between the elevation differences that exist on the site. The steel roof structure of the central 'hub' becomes more slender as it attaches to the other buildings. The protective glass provides natural lighting into the double height space that contains many social programs and can be used for a multitude of different functions.

With its use of energy efficient materials and sustainable practices, the Eskişehir Chamber of Commerce Convention and Exhibition Center aims to become a LEED certified building that not only functions as the new Chamber of Commerce but it also open to public use as well.
