TURKISH BASKETBALL FEDERATION HEADQUARTERS

TBF Headquarters Building locates in Zeytinburnu on a 13.685 m2-site. The building, surrounded by Abdi İpekçi Sports Hall and Yedikule Ramparts, was designed according to the contextual data. Material choice, in harmony with the historical ramparts, and main brutal approach composes the language of the building. The building height and façade decisions are considered according to the relation types with the surrounding data. The terrace lying across the southeast façade supports the visual relation with the historical ramparts. The roof does not only cover the building, but also creates eaves designed specifically to each façade’s needs. The eaves lying over the terrace across the southeast façade works as a sun-shading element. The eaves transforms into structural walls by extending to the ground at some points. The roof in TBF building works as a skin covering the rectangular mass. It is opened or closed at some points and it sometimes extends or shortens according to the spatial needs.

The plan organization of the building is designed according to the institutional structure of TBF and the demands of this structure. An atrium is created at the center; the three-sided main circulation staircase rises from this atrium. The openness or closeness of the spaces around the atrium is designed according to the demands of the user. The atrium lightened by the skylight is the meeting place of the building. The mini-museums, in which the cups of TBF are exhibited, locate at the ground level. There are mostly open offices at this level. The common corridors around the atrium are enlarged through these open offices and different from +4.00 level, a public place organization is designed by this way. +4.00 level houses more private and close spaces used by the permanent users of the building. The atrium is the central element connecting these two different types of spatial necessities. It creates visual relationship between different levels in the building and interprets the demands of the public and the private at the same time.

The colors used on the façade were reflected to the landscape texture; claret red, magenta and red elements are used mainly for the landscape.  The hard and the soft landscape elements are harmonized, and the steel grid designed onto the retaining walls is covered with ivy.
